Dermal Fillers

These are popular treatments used for softening wrinkles, laughter lines and facial lines resulting from ageing. They can also be used to add volume or definition to areas such as the lips, cheeks and the bridge of the nose which allows for a more plumped up and youthful appearance.

Here are dermaspace we use semi-permanent dermal fillers including the brand leader juvederm. These are composed of hyaluronic acid in the form of a gel. Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of the skin that acts like a sponge to retain large quantities of water. This allows the skin to be left hydrated, plump and youthful.

The amount and type of filler required depends on the depth of the line being treated, or the amount of lost volume being replaced. Typically treatment for nose to mouth lines needs 1-2 vials, marionette lines 1 vial, lips 1-2 vials, and cheeks 1-2 vials.

The procedure does not involve any cuts or incisions, but fine needles are used to insert the filler. There may be some mild discomfort during this process but it should not be painful. To minimise this pain, most of our fillers contain built in anaesthetic. Topical numbing cream can also be applied prior to treatments to further minimise any discomfort.
Common side effects include swelling which usually subsides within 48 hours, and bruising within 2 weeks. Written after care information is provided following all treatments.
Following treatment results can be seen instantly, and typically last between 6-12 months depending on the area treated and filler used. As the hyaluronic acid is a natural component of the skin, it naturally degrades over a period of time and is be re absorbed by the body.
Patients are offered a free of charge follow up appointment 2 weeks after treatment to assess response. If top up treatments are required, these may be at an additional cost. This is very rare and most clients need only the one treatment
