Anti Wrinkle Treatments
Anti-wrinkle treatments are performed using an injection of botulinum toxin - also known by its brand name BOTOX. It is a naturally made substance that is found in the soil, but is purified for cosmetic and clinical use. It has been used for over 20 years with no adverse effects.
When precise amounts are injected into the small muscles being treated, it causes the muscles to relax which prevents muscle contraction and achieves the desired cosmetic effect of leaving the skin wrinkle free. The muscles are still able to function as normal after the treatment, and normal facial expressions are unaffected.
The treatments are performed using very fine needles resulting in a virtually pain free procedure. Depending on the areas being treated, numbing cream can sometimes be applied prior to the procedure.
Common side effects include redness or mild bruising which settle quickly. Thorough written after care information is provided following all treatments.
After treatment it will take up to 2 weeks to see the full effects, with results typically lasting between 3-4 months. It is recommended to have regular treatments every 3 months as results can then last longer and up to 5-6 months. It has also been reported that if the injections are performed regularly, they can help delay the signs of ageing.
Patients are offered a free of charge follow up appointment 2 weeks after treatment to assess response.
- Glabellar/frown lines which are vertical lines between the eyebrows
- Frontalis/forehead/worry lines - the horizontal forehead lines
- Peri orbital lines/crows feet. These are the clusters of fine lines and wrinkles around the outer corners of the eyes
- Bunny lines - these are wrinkles at the side and upper part of the nose on smiling
- Gummy smiles - when the upper lip elevates too far above the upper teeth exposing too much of the gums.
- Peri oral lines/Smokers lines. These are the fine lines and wrinkles on the upper and/or Lower lips. Results can last between 2-7 Months. If the lines are present at rest it may be better treated with a dermal filler.
- Dimpled/pebbled chins
- Down turned corners of the mouths
- Hyperhidrosis. As well as for cosmetic purposes, Botox can also be used can to treat excessive sweating under the arms - a condition called hyperhidrosis.
- Turkey neck/platysmal bands and the nerfertiti lift. This is to improve the definition of the jawline, relax the Jowls and provide a lifting upward effect in the neck and jaw area.
- Massater botox/the Wide set jaw. This is a technique that reduces the width of the jawline. This allows for improved facial proportions. The results of Botox in this area take about 6 weeks to see effect, and last typically around 6 months.
- The chemical brow lift. This procedure can be used to create a more wide eyed and refreshed appearance.
